LEWISBURG, Pa. – Sophomore Chris Hass set career scoring highs in both of last week's games for the Bucknell men's basketball team, and on Monday he earned Bison Athlete of the Week honors. Hass tallied a personal-best 18 points in Thursday's loss to American, and then he upped that standard with a terrific 26-point performance in Sunday's victory over Colgate.
In the Colgate game, Hass made 10 of his 15 field-goal attempts, including 4 of 8 from 3-point distance. He scored 15 points in the first half to help Bucknell take 40-24 lead into the halftime break. The Raiders made a run in the second half, and Hass had the answers for the Bison. After Colgate scored 13 straight points to pull within five, Hass stemmed the tide for a bit with a big 3-pointer. With just under four minutes to play the lead was trimmed to two, but Hass' driving layup ignited an 8-0 run that clinched the victory.
After receiving limited playing time on Bucknell's Patriot League championship team a year ago, Hass has emerged as a key player in 2013-14. He has played in all 13 games with nine starts and is now averaging 9.8 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. Hass is shooting 46.5 percent from the field, 40.4 percent from 3-point range and 84.2 percent from the foul line.
Now 6-7 overall and 1-1 in the Patriot League, the Bison are back in action on Wednesday at Lafayette at 7 p.m.
