First-Half Goal Helps Lock Haven Over Bucknell Field Hockey, 1-0

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Lock Haven's Kiersten Cepeda knocked in a rebound midway through the first half and that goal stood up as the Bucknell field hockey team dropped a 1-0 decision to the Eagles Sunday afternoon at Charlotte Smith Field. The Bison fell to 0-2 on the season as they opened their 2013 campaign Friday night with a 3-1 loss to No. 13 Iowa.
Bucknell had a significant edge in penalty corners for a second straight game, posting a 6-1 advantage over Lock Haven (1-1). The penalty corner edge was 4-0 in the first half. The Bison now hold a 12-5 lead in penalty corners through just two games.
Lock Haven (1-1) was coming off a 2-1 home loss on Friday to No. 1 North Carolina. The Eagles posted six shots, including three by Cepeda. Bucknell senior goalie Erica Perrine (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) made two saves, while Amie Pritchard (Rumson, N.J./Kent School (Conn.)) and Liz Wills (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./William Penn Charter School) each recorded a defensive save.
Lock Haven goalie Elaina White made four saves for her second career shutout.
For the second consecutive game Bucknell showcased its depth by using seven reserves, while its opponent used just three.
This was the first 1-0 game involving the Bison since a 1-0 two-overtime victory over Colgate on Oct. 29, 2011.
Bucknell will continue its season-opening stretch of playing five straight games away from Graham Field next weekend when it travels to Columbus, Ohio, to face Missouri State (Sat., 12 p.m.) and Ohio State (Sun., 12 p.m.).
