LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Fresh off a sound opening-day victory over Rider, the Bucknell women's soccer team hits the road for the first time in 2013 when it visits Mount St. Mary's in a noon start Sunday at the Waldron Family Stadium in Emmitsburg, Md. There will be a live webcast on NEC Front Row.
Mount St. Mary's also comes in with a 1-0 record following a 1-0 road win over UMBC on Friday. Emma Blair's 29th-minute tally was all the Mountaineers needed, as Rachel Bourne and Vicky Cocozza combined to make four saves in goal.
Mount St. Mary's finished 7-11-1 last season, and in 2013 The Mount brings back four of its top five scorers. That includes Alicia Mirando, who led the squad with seven goals a year ago.
The Bison were strong in all phases of the game in Friday's 3-0 home win over Rider. Last year's leading scorer, Chelsey Garkowski, tallied twice and Courtney Nelson once as Bucknell rolled up a 27-10 shot advantage. The midfield forced numerous turnovers, and the defense, aided by a highlight-reel save on a penalty kick by sophomore goalkeeper Jessie Ashworth, kept a clean sheet.
Bucknell is 10-1-1 all-time against Mount St. Mary's, including a 2-0 victory last season at Emmitt Field. Both Bucknell goal-scorers in that game have graduated, however. Kayla Yee scored on a penalty kick just 3:07 into the match, and Taryn Boucher tacked on an insurance goal in the 77th minute.
Two years ago in Emmitsburg, Bucknell accumulated a 19-5 shot advantage but settled for a scoreless tie. Mount St. Mary's lone series win was a 3-0 verdict in Lewisburg in 2010.
