Scott Jones, the director of athletics at Keystone College for the last four years, was selected as Bucknell University's new manager of NCAA compliance services this past May.
In his new position, Jones is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the department's NCAA compliance and rules education program for student-athletes, coaches and staff. He coordinates and monitors the certification of student-athletes' eligibility and serves as the primary contact on matters relating to NCAA rules for former students, boosters and donors.
After spending the 2001-02 academic year as associate director of athletics and head cross country coach at Keystone, Jones was named the school's director of athletics in June 2002. During his tenure as AD, he led Keystone from the junior college ranks to the NCAA Division III level, where it is currently in its second year as a provisional member. Jones also helped Keystone become a charter member of the new North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC).
A native of Attleboro, Mass., Jones holds an undergraduate degree from Providence College, where he was a member of the Friars' nationally ranked cross country team, and a master of education degree in counseling and psychological services with a concentration in athletics counseling from Springfield College. He has worked in higher education since 1990, when he was hired as area coordinator and head men's and women's cross country coach at Assumption College.
From 1993-95 Jones served as senior residence hall director at Providence, his alma mater. He then moved on to Loyola College in Baltimore, where he spent one year as assistant director of student life followed by two years in the athletics department as assistant director of academic advising. Also at Loyola, Jones was head men's and women's cross country and track and field coach from 1996-98.
In March 1998 Jones was hired as director of student activities and athletics at Luzerne County Community College in Nanticoke, Pa. He was tasked with the oversight of the school's intercollegiate athletics program, with tasks ranging from budget management to scheduling to equipment management to sports information and publicity. Under his direction, the school added varsity men's and women's soccer teams, constructed a new varsity softball field and marketed a new school logo and nickname. He also served as an adjunct professor in the social sciences and physical education departments.
