LEWISBURG, Pa. - The beginning of the 2013 Bucknell football season is still more than two months away, but there are a couple of upcoming events Bison gridiron fans will want to mark on their calendars. First up is the popular Bud Ranck-Tom Gadd Memorial Kickoff Classic July 28-29 at the Bucknell Golf Club. Additionally, the Second Annual Bucknell Football Alumni Weekend is slated for Sept. 7-8 surrounding the Bison's home opener against Marist.
The Ranck-Gadd event serves as the program's biggest and most important fundraiser. Bucknell alumni, parents, friends and fans are invited to enjoy a great day of golf, a chance to meet Bucknell head coach Joe Susan, the opportunity to reunite with friends and teammates and to support the Bison football program.
The Ranck-Gadd festivities kick off Sunday, July 28, at 1 p.m. with the Bud Ranck Flight shotgun start. That evening there is a reception in the Terrace Room in the Elaine Langone Center at 6 p.m., followed by the popular dinner program at 7 p.m. A gathering at Damon's Grill will commence at 9:30 p.m.
The two-day event continues on Monday, July 29, with the Tom Gadd Flight shotgun at 8 a.m., lunch at noon at the Bucknell Golf Club and the Bison Flight shotgun at 1:30 p.m.
The golf tournament is $175 per person. For those wishing to golf and attend Sunday evening's dinner, the cost is $200. Attending only the dinner is $25. Hole sponsorships are also available. Contact Joan Seebold at 570-577-3067 or joanie.seebold@bucknell.edu to register for the event.
Last year more than 100 former Bucknell football players returned to campus for the program's inaugural Alumni Weekend. This year's event will take place the opening weekend of the season. A special tailgate will be held Saturday, Sept. 7, at 3 p.m. behind the Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium scoreboard. Kickoff of Bucknell vs. Marist is at 6 p.m. and there will be a postgame celebration at the Towne Tavern Shanty on Market Street starting at 9:30 p.m.
The fun-filled weekend will conclude with a brunch in the Terrace Room Sunday, Sept. 8, at 10:30 a.m.
Registration for Bucknell Football Alumni Weekend is $25 per adult and $10 for each child (17 and under). All football alumni will receive a commemorative t-shirt.
