LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell sophomore midfielder David Dickson (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) earned Third Team All-America honors from the U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) on Thursday, giving the Bison men's lacrosse team an All-America selection for the sixth year in a row. In addition, senior defenseman Mike Huffner (Elmira, N.Y./Notre Dame) was selected to play in the USILA/LAXWORLD North-South All-Star Game in Philadelphia this weekend.
Dickson earned First Team All-Patriot League honors this season after developing into one of the nation's top set-up men. Dickson shattered Bucknell and Patriot League records with 48 assists this season. His 3.0 assists per game led the Patriot League and ranked fourth in the nation. He also scored eight goals, giving him a team-high 56 points on the season.
After earning Second Team All-Patriot League honors as a freshman, Dickson moved up to the First Team in 2013. Dickson had at least one assist in every game and multiple assists in 14 out of 16. He handed out five assists in Bucknell's Patriot League Tournament semifinal victory over Army, and he later made the Patriot League All-Tournament Team. Dickson also had a five-assist game in a league win over Lafayette earlier in the season.
Dickson already ranks fifth on Bucknell's career list with 74 assists in just two seasons. That total is the highest among all sophomores nationwide.
Dickson is the seventh Bucknell men's lacrosse player to earn All-America honors above the Honorable Mention level. He joins Billy Eisenreich (Third Team 2012), Chris Cara(Third Team 2005), Peter von Hoffmann (Third Team 1979), Lou Kissling (Third Team 1970), Ed Farver (First Team 1969) and Jim McKee (Second Team 1969).
Dickson was one of nine All-Americans from the Patriot League this season. Dickson and Army defender Brendan Buckley were Third Team picks, while seven others earned Honorable Mention honors.
Huffner was one of the nation's top senior defensemen this season, and he earned a spot on the South team for the North-South All-Star Game. The contest will be played at Edith Robb Dixon Field on the campus of Cabrini College on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
Earlier this week Huffner was named to the USILA Scholar All-America Team. He was a three-time All-Patriot League selection, including a pair of First Team citations. Huffner enjoyed another outstanding season in 2013. He ranked among the team leaders in ground balls and caused turnovers, and Bucknell ranked among the national leaders in goals allowed, caused turnovers and man-down efficiency.
At Bucknell's annual Senior Athletics Awards Banquet, Huffner was presented the Robert A. Latour Service Award, presented to a senior athlete "for extraordinary service to Bucknell and local communities." This spring Huffner earned a spot on the Patriot League All-Academic Team for the second year in a row. He was also selected as one of 10 national finalists for the Senior CLASS Award, which recognizes notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. A Dean's List student in biology, Huffner plans to attend medical school next year.
Bucknell was ranked as high as No. 6 in the nation this season and finished 12-4 overall and 5-1 in the Patriot League.
