Bucknell's Sean Doyle Wins PL Men's Lax Rookie of the Week Honor, Bison Move Up in National Rankings

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Bucknell freshman attackman Sean Doyle (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) earned his second Patriot League Rookie of the Week honor of 2013 on Monday after posting a goal and an assist at critical junctures of the fourth quarter in Saturday's big 9-8 win at Army.
That victory kept the Bison in a tie for first place alongside Lehigh at 4-0 in the Patriot League. Those two teams will meet on Friday night in Lewisburg, with the winner clinching the regular-season championship and the right to host the Patriot League Tournament at the end of the month.
Bucknell also moved up two spots in both major national polls this week. The Bison are now No. 9 in the USILA Coaches' Poll and No. 11 in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse Media Poll.
Army's stout defense kept Doyle off the scoresheet into the fourth quarter of Saturday afternoon's game at Michie Stadium, but Doyle came up big in crunch time. Chase Bailey had just snapped a 6-6 tie with a fourth-quarter man-up goal, and then just over a minute later Doyle scored off a Todd Heritage feed to give the Bison their first two-goal cushion of the day.
After Army pulled back within 8-7, Doyle returned the favor, assisting Heritage on what would prove to be the game-winning goal with 5:53 remaining.
Bucknell has five players with 28 or more points, and Doyle is one of them, even though he missed two games due to an injury earlier in the year. He has 20 goals and 12 assists for 32 points. Doyle ranks seventh in the Patriot League in assists per game and eighth in both goals and points per contest.
Bucknell is the highest-scoring team in the league at 11.1 goals per game.
Bucknell is now 10-2 on the season and is tied with Cornell for the most wins in the country. Friday night's Lehigh game at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium begins at 7:30 p.m. The game will be webcast live on Bison Vision at BucknellBison.com.
