LEWISBURG, Pa. – After having a week off, Bucknell women's tennis returned to the courts with a 5-0 win over Bloomsburg at the Varsity Tennis Courts on Wednesday before the match was called due to storms. The Bison (9-11) won each of their completed singles matches in the final match before the Patriot League Tournament, which begins on Friday.
Bucknell breezed through each of their singles matches. Elena Vidrascu collected her 17th win of the season by defeating Caitlin Flynn 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 1 position. The scores were similar all the way down the lineup. Maria Cioffi did not allow a game to her opponent at second singles, winning 6-0, 6-0 over Natalie Greenholt. Cioffi leads Bucknell with a 23-12 singles record this year.
Also winning 6-0, 6-0 were Christie Schneider and Stephanie Pino at fourth and fifth singles. With these victories, each Bison now enters the postseason with a three-match winning streak. Jen Bush got back in the winning column with a 6-3, 6-0 decision over Erin Reitenauer at third singles.
Bloomsburg (5-10) got its best look at a win at sixth singles as Nicole Slagle was leading Sam Madnick 6-4, 0-2 when the match was called due to lightning in the area. The storms also kept the teams from playing doubles.
Bucknell will return to the courts on Friday when it takes on Holy Cross at 3 p.m. at West Point, N.Y., in the Patriot League Tournament quarterfinals. The third-seeded Bison will play the winner of Navy and Lafayette in the semifinals should they advance. That match will play out at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
