BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Bucknell women's tennis capped of its Patriot League regular season with a 5-2 win over Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pa., on Tuesday afternoon. Maria Cioffi and Elena Vidrascu finished the campaign at 4-1 in double together with their victory over the Mountain Hawks, while the Bison improved to 8-11 overall and 3-2 in the Patriot League as a team. It was Bucknell's 10th consecutive victory over Lehigh (5-13, 2-4 PL).
With the win, Bucknell secured the No. 3 seed in the Patriot League Tournament. The remainder of the seeds have not yet been made official. The postseason event runs April 26-28 at West Point, N.Y.
Cioffi and Vidrascu were the first off the court with their 8-4 win over Jenai Bilimoria and Abby Farrell. It was the third time this season the Bison duo had beaten that Lehigh pairing. The first two came in September at the Lehigh Invitational, but Bucknell had a much easier result this time around as the previous meetings went to a 9-8 score. It was the 18th win overall this year for Cioffi and Vidrascu.
Cioffi later clinched the match for Bucknell with a tough 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 decision over Farrell at No. 2 singles. As was the case in doubles, it was a rematch between the two players. Cioffi also took the fall tournament meeting in a super tie break.
Lydia Colvin returned to form in both singles and doubles. The sophomore paired with Stephanie Pino for an 8-5 win over Taylor Hampshire and Ali Kaminetsky to secure the doubles points. Colvin went on to defeat Kaminetsky 6-4, 7-6 (3) at third singles. Colvin's victories snapped a five-match skid each in singles and doubles.
Helping to guarantee the team win with their singles success were Pino and Christie Schneider. Pino defeated Marian Prim quickly, 6-1, 6-0, at the No. 6 spot. Schneider was forced to a tie break in her opening set before finishing smoothly at fifth singles against Molly Brooks. The Bison sophomore walked away with the 7-6 (2), 6-2 win, earning her second consecutive victory.
Before heading to West Point for the Patriot League Tournament, Bucknell will face one more non-conference opponent. The Bison host Bloomsburg at 4 p.m. on April 24.
