Bucknell Women's Rowing Advances Five Boats to Knecht Cup Finals

CHERRY HILL, N.J. (Cooper River) –All four of Bucknell's eights as well as the varsity four had strong first days at the Knecht Cup on Saturday and advanced to Sunday's finals. Overall, five of the seven Bison boats that were in action moved on to compete Sunday. The lightweight eight earned two finals appearances.
The Bison had both its varsity eight and lightweight eight entered in the varsity eight race and both will race in Sunday's Grand Final. The varsity eight was third in its heat and then second in its semifinal, while the lightweight eight was third in its heat and first in its semifinal. The lightweight eight's semifinal time of 6:35.44 was the fastest by an eight all day.
The lightweight eight also competed in the lightweight eight event and placed second in its semifinal, earning a spot in that final as well.
The second varsity eight, which won gold at the Knecht Cup last year, was second in both its heat and semifinal, ensuring it a spot in Sunday's Grand Final.
The freshman eight rounded out the list of Bison eights in the finals as it was third in its heat and second in its semifinal.
The varsity four earned a spot in its Grand Final by winning its heat by nearly three seconds over Buffalo and then finishing second to Northeastern in the semifinal.
Bucknell's second varsity four and freshman four were also in action on Saturday, but did not advance past their heats.
The two-day Knecht Cup will wrap up on Sunday. First races are scheduled for 8:10 a.m., while the varsity eight finals will take place during the 2 p.m. hour.
