LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell women's track and field got off to a strong start at the Bison Outdoor Classic, setting four program top-10 marks and earning even more top-10 finishes at the start of the two-day meet at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. Among those top performances were Erin Norris and Montana DiPietrantonio, who both made their debuts on the record lists in the javelin and 10,000 meters, respectively.
Norris placed eighth overall in the javelin, throwing a career-best 131-11. That mark ties the sophomore for fifth all-time at Bucknell, equaling that set by Danielle Brown in 2002.
Were the meet being scored, the long jump and discus would have brought in some points for the Bison. Alyssa Cardillo (17-5 ½) and Alexandra Romanelli (17-3 ½) took sixth and seventh in the jumps event while Devon McDonald took ninth (16-7 ¾).
Across the way at West Fields, Abby Monaghan placed fourth in the discus with a mark of 150-1. Sophia Nnadi took sixth at 130-0. Both distances were career highs for Monaghan and Nnadi.
Long distance races ruled the track on Saturday. DiPietrantonio clocked in at the 10K in 36:33.77. The sophomore entered the meet not ranking in the program's top 10, but she leaves it with the No. 7 fastest time at Bucknell. It is also the fastest time to be added to the ledger since Katie Pfeifer in 2004 (36:24.97).
Beth Braunegg nabbed a career best of her own in the 1,500 meters. The junior finished eighth overall with a time of 4:30.38, which ranks fourth in program history. Caroline Tolli was also 10th (4:32.75) in the race. In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Leah Goeke placed 10th, running a personal record 10:55.07.
The Bison Outdoor Classic continues tomorrow at 10:30 a.m.
