Bucknell has Four Named to Women's Swimming and Diving Academic All-Patriot League Team

LEWISBURG, Pa. - A league-high four Bison landed on the Women's Swimming and Diving Academic All-Patriot League Team, it was announced Wednesday. Junior Kelly Pontecorvo (New Providence, N.J./Mount St. Mary Academy) and senior Elizabeth Porcellio (Fairport, N.Y./Penfield) were repeat selections, while sophomores Tara Boyle (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) and Lauren Perry (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) received their first citations.
All four of the Bison honored Wednesday earned All-Patriot League recognition last week, while three of them combined to win four events at the Patriot League Championships.
Pontecorvo earned her second straight Academic All-Patriot League selection after piling up 38 points at last month's Patriot League Championships. The three-time All-Patriot League selection won the 1,650 free, placed second in the 500 free and was 16th in the 200 free. Pontecorvo set school records in the 500, 1,000 and 1,650 during the three-day championship meet.
A two-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member, Pontecorvo carries a 3.45 grade-point average while majoring in management. She volunteers at a local food bank and is part of the Bucknell Bison Leadership Academy. Additionally, she participated in linguistics research in the summer of 2012 and earned the Frazier-Grunow Award as the team's best swimmer in 2012.
A four-time Second Team All-Patriot League selection, Porcellio earned her second straight Academic All-Patriot League Award after another solid Patriot League meet. The senior tied for 17th in points scored thanks to a fourth-place finish in the 200 IM, a fifth-place showing in the 400 IM and a seventh-place finish in the 200 breast. She posted the No. 4 time in school history in the 400 IM and the No. 5 time in the 200 breast.
Porcellio ended her Patriot League career having scored in 12 individual events over the last four years.
Listed in the top 10 in program history in six events, Porcellio is a neuroscience major with a GPA of 3.83. She is a three-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member and a six-time Dean's List member. A member of the Alpha Lambda Delta honor Society, Porcellio has spent time volunteering at a local food bank and has served as Social Awareness Director, Junior Honor Board Member and Vice President: Social Standards for Delta Gamma sorority.
Perry earned her second straight First Team All-Patriot League honor this year after winning both the 100 and 200 free at the Patriot League Championships. She set school records in both events and also placed sixth in the 50 free. Her 53 points scored were the second-most in the league behind Scholar-Athlete and Swimmer of the Meet Laura Gorinski of Navy.
Perry, who posted a 4.00 GPA in the fall 2012 semester and is an undeclared major, was a member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in 2012. She performs at least 10 hours of community service per semester with her sorority and is a member of Bucknell's Students Helping Animals Organization.
Perry, Porcellio and Pontecorvo were also involved in a number relays at the Patriot League Championships and each had solid showings at this past weekend's ECAC Championships. Boyle was also Bucknell's top diver at the ECAC Championships.
Boyle, who in 2012 became Bucknell's first-ever Patriot League diving champion, captured the gold medal off the one-meter board for a second straight year at the Patriot League Championships. She also placed fourth off the three-meter board and was named First Team All-Patriot League for a second straight year.
A member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and a three-time Dean's List member, Boyle is an accounting and financial management major with a 3.75 GPA. She performs at least 10 hours of community service each semester with her sorority.
No other Patriot League team had more than two selections to the Academic All-Patriot League Team. Now in its third year, the Academic All-Patriot League Team was added for all sports beginning in the 2010-11 season to honor additional student-athletes who excel both on and off the field. The Men's Swimming and Diving Academic All-Patriot League Team consists of 10 student-athletes. Voting for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the Academic All-Patriot League Team is conducted by the league's swimming and diving sports information directors, who cannot vote for their own student-athletes.
