Bucknell's Haupt Sets Program Top-10 Mark at W&L Track Carnival

LEXINGTON, Va. – Emma Rice, Michaela Read and Cody Haupt kicked off Bucknell track and field's outdoor season with an appearance at the Washington & Lee Carnival in Lexington, Va., this weekend. All three earned top-15 finishes in their respective events. The rest of the Bison will join the action next week at the Susquehanna and UMBC invitationals.
Despite their only being three Bison at the meet, the trio kept busy. Rice placed 11th in the 100 meters (13.20) and 13th in the 200 (27.10). It was the first time the sophomore had competed since the end of the 2012 outdoor season.
Read's and Haupt's meet began on Friday in the multi events. Read, who placed second in the pentathlon at the Patriot League Indoor Championships last month, was 15th overall with 3,185 points. The freshman had one of her strongest performances in the high jump where she led the field with a height of 5-4 ½.
Like Read, Haupt was competing in his career first outdoor multi event. Haupt placed 14th in the decathlon with 4,787 points. That total ranks eighth all-time at Bucknell, the best mark since Andrew Powell set the school record (6,667) and Sam Brandstadt move into fifth (5,902) last spring.
Haupt placed among the top 10 in the field of 21 athletes in four events, including the javelin. His throw of 158-9 placed him second in the event, adding to his point total. His 100-meter time of 11.65 was also among one of the best.
The Susquehanna Invite and UMBC Invite are both set for March 30, marking the first set of major meets for the Bison.
