BOSTON - Bucknell women's track and field put up several of the fastest times in history on the first day of the ECAC Championships in Boston on Saturday, breaking three school records and setting three other program top-10 marks. Highlighting the group were Kim Nagotko and Jennifer Zymet, who both broke the Bucknell record in the 200 and were members of the record-breaking 4x400.
Three records fell in four track events on Saturday. Nagotko ran 24.65 seconds in the 200-meter prelims, while Zymet clocked in at 24.89. Both topped the previous school record set by recent Bucknell Athletics Hall of Fame inductee Yetunde Daniels (24.94). Nagotko and Zymet are just the third and fourth Bison in program history to run sub-25.00 in the sprint.
Zymet and Nagotko teamed up with Jess Bridle and Sasha Hornock in the 4x400 later in the day to repeat their record-breaking performance. The relay crossed the finish line with a time of 3:46.28, beating the previous program standard by nearly one second.
Zymet now has a piece of three indoor school records, adding today's times to her 300-meter record from earlier this season. She joins another Bucknell Hall of Famer Stephanie Bango and LaTonya McSwain as the only Bison with three school records on the current lists.
Before Bucknell's sprinters took the track, the team's middle-distance runners were rewriting the record books as well. Hana Casalnova and Beth Braunegg both broke the 1,000-meter record, placing second and fourth, respectively, in the prelims. Casalnova's time of 2:49.81 is the first sub-2:50 by a Bison. It also broke Caroline Tolli's program standard by just over one second and was her own personal best by three seconds.
Braunegg finished her race on Saturday with a time of 2:50.79. That would have also stood as a school record had Casalnova not placed in front of her. Both Casalnova and Braunegg will advance to tomorrow's final, set for 1:55 p.m.
It is the second time in her career that Casalnova has held the program record in the 1,000. She held the top mark for one year after setting it originally at the 2012 Youngstown State National Invitational. Casalnova had taken that record from Braunegg.
Away from the track, Emily Ando tied for 11th in the pole vault with a career best of her own. The junior cleared 11-11 ¾, giving her sole possession of fifth all-time at Bucknell. Alexandra Romanelli was 17th in the triple jump (36-7 ¾) and Abby Monaghan was 20th in the weight throw (51-3 ¾).
The ECAC Championships conclude tomorrow. Competition gets underway at 9:30 a.m.
