Suazo Negrete Earns Two Top Eight Finishes at the U23 NACAC Championships

TLAXCALA, Mexico- Prizila Negrete added two more strong performances to her career ledger for Honduras at the U23 NACAC (North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletic Association) Championships on Friday and Saturday. The rising senior finished sixth in the shot put and eighth in the discus throw, as she continues her return from being sidelined with injury during the 2026 collegiate season.Â

Negrete completed her weekend on Saturday, throwing 12.31m (40-4.75m) in the shot put. She recorded marks in five of her six chances and her best mark arrived during her second attempt. Negrete proved remarkably consistent, surpassing 12 meters on four of her five legal throws, as she rebuilds her strength after the debilitating injury.Â
On Friday, she finished eighth in the discus throw, tossing 36.85m (120-10). She fouled in her first try before recording marks in the next five throws. Her best mark came during her third attempt.Â
Negrete has represented the Five Stars with distinction for several years. Earlier this April, she was named Honduras' 2025 Women's Track & Field Athlete of the Year after excelling at the Central American Games last October. There, she established both the meet and Honduras national records in the shot put with a throw of 13.74m (45-1).
Her Bucknell career will resume this December at the traditional Bison Opener.
