
Bucknell Women's Water Polo Loses Twice at Aztec Invitational

SAN DIEGO, Calif. –The Bucknell women's water polo team opened play at the two-day Aztec Invitational on Saturday and suffered a pair of losses to top-10 teams. The Bison dropped their first game of the day by an 11-3 margin to host and seventh-ranked San Diego State and then fell to No. 8 Hawaii by a 10-4 score in the nightcap.
Bucknell's Julianne Valdes and Taylor Barnett each scored two goals on the day, one in each game. Barbara Peterson added a goal in the opener, while freshmen Hannah Sunday and Martine McCarthy each found the back of the net against Hawaii.
The Bison did not give either opponent Saturday a six-on-five opportunity.
Bucknell goalie Rena Heim totaled 19 saves on the day, including 10 against San Diego State. The Bison defense was strong in front of her against the Aztecs, tallying 11 steals. Tara Murao and Peterson each had three thefts in the contest.
Bucknell (4-12) is in the midst of playing six ranked teams in a seven-game span as it wraps up its week-long trip to California. The Bison will play the final two games of its 11-game trip on Sunday when it faces No. 13 Cal State Northridge and No. 17 UC San Diego.
