
Bucknell Women's Water Polo Wraps Up California Trip at Aztec Invitational

SAN DIEGO, Calif. –The Bucknell women's water polo team completed its 11-game trip to California on Sunday against a pair of ranked teams at the Aztec Invitational. The Bison lost game one to No. 13 CSU Northridge by an 8-2 margin and then had an early lead against No. 17 UC San Diego, but dropped a 7-4 decision to the Tritons.
Bucknell (4-14) concluded its week by playing six ranked opponents in its last seven games, including CSU Northridge (17-8) twice. The Matadors defeated the Bison 18-7 on Thursday, but Sunday's meeting was much lower scoring. Rena Heim made 14 saves for Bucknell, but CSU Northridge netted five second-half goals for the victory.
Julianne Valdes and Barbara Peterson netted goals for the Bison in the opener.
The second game of the day was closer as Bucknell and UC San Diego (14-8) were tied 2-2 at halftime. In fact, Tara Murao's first goal of the game put the Bison up 2-1 midway through the second quarter. However, the Tritons outscored Bucknell 5-2 in the second half.
Murao's two goals led the Bison against UC San Diego, while Taylor Barnett and Sayeh Bozorghadad each netted one. Heim totaled 11 saves.
Bucknell will return to Lewisburg Monday morning and will be idle until it wraps up the regular season April 6 and 7 at Princeton.
