
Valdes Scores Four Goals in Bucknell Women's Water Polo's 9-4 Win Over Occidental

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. –Julianne Valdes scored a game-high four goals and Rena Heim recorded 10 saves to lead the Bucknell women's water polo team to a 9-4 victory over Occidental Thursday. The victory came just a couple hours after the Bison opened the day with an 18-7 loss to No. 13 and host Cal State Northridge.
Bucknell (4-10) picked up its first win on its 11-game California as it jumped out to a 5-2 lead on the Tigers. The Bison still led by two goals entering the fourth quarter when they shut out Occidental (4-11) while Valdes, Barbara Peterson and Mackenzie Ferry netted goals for the final five-goal margin.
Hannah Sunday added two goals, while Krystle Morgan had one. Sunday and Morgan also drew three ejections apiece.
Heim's 10 saves in the nightcap gave her 16 on the day as she posted six in the opener.
Sunday, Morgan and Taylor Barnett tallied two goals apiece in the opener, but the Matadors (14-6) jumped out to a 10-4 first-half lead and tallied five of the game's final six goals.
Sunday and Morgan each had two ejections drawn in the opener.
Bucknell will play Cal State Northridge again this weekend at the Aztec Invitational. The Bison have already played three nationally ranked teams this week and are scheduled to play four more this weekend in San Diego.
