LEWISBURG, Pa. - With her 16 rebounds and characteristic hustle in the Patriot League Tournament quarterfinal win over American, Bucknell women's basketball's Lindsay Horbatuck (Avon, Conn./Avon) was named the Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday. Horbatuck, who now has three Bison Athlete of the Week honors in her career, will lead Bucknell against Navy in tonight's Patriot League semifinal in Annapolis, Md.
Horbatuck was a key defensive presence for sixth-seeded Bucknell in its upset over No. 3 American in the quarterfinals last Thursday. The senior finished the game with 16 rebounds, leading all players and tying her for fifth on the program's Patriot League Tournament record list. Horbatuck also had a game-high four steals against the Eagles.
Horbatuck's stat line against American also included four points, all of which came on put backs in the first half and kept Bucknell in the hunt despite its early offensive struggles. The forward also had one blocked shot and one assist.
Prior to the start of the tournament, Horbatuck was named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team. An elementary education major, Horbatuck is the third Bison to be recognized for her success in the classroom and on the court.
Horbatuck enters Monday's Patriot League Tournament semifinal game leading the team and the conference in rebounding. She is averaging 10.5 boards on the year. Her 315 total rebounds ranks second all-time at Bucknell on the single-season list, while her 795 rebounds rank sixth in program history. Horbatuck is also second among Bison in steals (34), third in blocked shots (13) and fourth in scoring (7.5 ppg).
The Bison Athlete of the Week honor is the first of the season for Horbatuck and her first since she was recognized twice last season as a junior. Women's basketball has three Bison Athlete of the Week accolades this season as Alyssa Dunn (Nov. 25) and Audrey Dotson (Dec. 16) have also been honored.
Bucknell will be playing for its first Patriot League Championship appearance since 2008 when it takes on No. 2 Navy in Annapolis, Md., tonight. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
