PITTSBURGH – Josh Katten posted a straight-sets win over Duquesne's Corey Robinson but the lone Bison's effort was not enough to spark Bucknell men's tennis to another team victory. The Bison fell 6-1 to Duquesne at the Alpha Tennis and Fitness Center on Saturday afternoon, dropping their dual record to 1-2 on the year.
Katten defeated Robinson by a score of 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 3 singles position. All other singles bouts were also decided in straight sets, but those went the way of the Dukes. The closest to pulling out a win of his own was Nick Bybel who fell 7-5, 6-4 at No. 1 to Rich Robbie.
Canibe dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision to Alex Aleman at No. 4 singles. Aleman's win was a reversal from the players' previous meeting at the Bucknell Invitational in September. That match went in favor of Canibe 3-6, 6-4, 11-9.
Duquesne took both completed doubles matches by a score of 8-3. Bybel and Katten fell to Aleman and Pete Carpenter at the No. 1 spot, while Kelly Morque and Evan Zimmer lost to Robinson and Max Rubin at No. 2. It was the first loss of the season for each Bucknell doubles tandem.
The loss on Saturday was a major turnaround from Bucknell's 5-2 victory over Duquesne a year ago. The series between the two squads remains in the Dukes' favor, 6-8.
Bucknell will return to the court next weekend to take on Niagara and St. Bonaventure Feb. 16-17 in Olean, N.Y.
