LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell baseball team will be on the road for a third consecutive weekend to begin the 2013 season. The Bison will play two games against both Harvard and host Virginia starting Friday at Davenport Field.
Bucknell's schedule includes single games Friday (12 p.m. vs. Virginia) and Saturday (12 p.m. vs. Harvard), followed by a doubleheader on Sunday (11 a.m. vs. Harvard, 2:30 p.m. vs. Virginia). A live video broadcast of Saturday's game will be available via virginiasports.com, while a live audio broadcast will be available for Sunday's Bucknell-Virginia contest.
The Bison are still looking for their first win of the season as they were swept in three-game series at Richmond and Duke to start the season. Those two teams own a solid 10-5 mark this year.
Bucknell, under the direction of first-year head coach Scott Heather, has had some bright spots. Rookie pitchers Max Kra, Dan Keller and Austin Zimmerman have yet to allow a run in 7.0 combined innings pitched, while starting pitchers Dan Goldstein, Bryson Hough and Dan Weigel have yielded just 24 hits and struck out 21 in 31.2 innings.
Senior infielder Travis Clark and junior outfielder Corey Furman enter the weekend leading Bucknell with four hits apiece. Furman posted his second career two-hit game last Sunday at Duke.
The Bison are 1-0 all-time against Harvard with the only meeting being a 4-0 Bucknell victory in 2003. The Bison are 1-18 all-time against Virginia. The two teams have not met since 2009.
Harvard, which posted a 12-30 record in 2012, will be opening its 2013 campaign this weekend. The Cavaliers bring an unblemished 8-0 mark into the weekend and are ranked 19th nationally according to the USA Today Coaches Poll.
Bucknell will next be in action Sunday, March 10, when it opens its seven-game Spring Break trip to Florida against North Dakota State.
