LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Bucknell senior guard Bryson Johnson (Pictou, Nova Scotia/St. David's Catholic), the new Patriot League 3-point king, has earned Bison Athlete of the Week honors. In Bucknell's lone contest last week, Johnson scored 17 points and hit some clutch shots late in the game in a 60-58 road victory over Army.
Unfazed by a tough start shooting the ball, Johnson set a career high with six assists, tied his career high with eight rebounds and made his final four shots of the day. He got going with a tough runner in traffic, then hit three straight 3-pointers over the final 10:38. The last of those came with 3:53 to play and stretched a two-point lead up to five.
Those three treys gave Johnson 303 for his career, breaking the Patriot League record for career 3-point field goals. Former American guard Garrison Carr held the previous mark with 302. Johnson broke the Bucknell record one week earlier when he hit six 3-pointers in a home victory over Navy, and now he has the Patriot League record to boot.
Johnson is Bucknell's third-leading scorer at 11.6 points per game. He has 56 assists and only 29 turnovers on the season, and he is shooting 41.7 percent from the 3-point arc. Johnson now has 1,286 career points, 14th-most in school history.
The victory over Army made Bucknell 20-4 on the season and 7-1 in the Patriot League. The Bison have now recorded three straight 20-win seasons for the second time in program history, and they are tied for first place with Lehigh heading into Wednesday night's home game against Colgate.
