LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell swimming and diving teams will return to dual meet competition this Saturday in Hamilton, N.Y., against Patriot League foe Colgate. It will be the first road meet for the Bison since Oct. 19 as both Bucknell squads enter the weekend with matching 4-1 overall marks, including 3-0 against league opponents.
The Bison women are coming off a commanding first-place finish at their own three-day invitational two weeks ago. Bucknell defeated second-place Fordham by more than 700 points in the final standings as 19 new program top-10 marks were recorded during the event that is similar in structure to the Patriot League Championships. Emma Levendoski was the standout, lowering two program backstroke records and setting NCAA “B” cut times in both en route to Patriot League Female Swimmer of the Week and Bison Athlete of the Week plaudits.
Bucknell holds a 14-9 all-time lead in the series against Colgate, but the Raiders have captured each of the last eight meetings. Last January's meet was a close one with the Raiders winning 161-139. In only one event all meet did either team sweep the top two places.
Colgate's women, who were picked to finish fourth – one spot behind Bucknell – in the Patriot League this year, are 2-3, 0-2 Patriot League. The Raiders are 2-0 at home and enter the weekend on a two-meet winning streak with victories over Niagara and Canisius.
Bucknell eighth-year head coach Dan Schinnerer is just one victory shy of tying Jerry Foley for second place on the women's swimming and diving all-time wins list. Schinnerer owns a 42-29-1 record at the helm of the women's program and a 44-27 mark overseeing the men.
The Bison men placed second to a strong Yale team at the Bucknell Invitational two weeks ago. Senior All-Patriot Leaguer Mike Nicholson highlighted the weekend for the Bison, winning all four of his individual events and breaking his own school record in the 200 fly.
Bucknell is 29-9 all-time against Colgate, including a 193-92 victory a year ago. The Bison have won 22 meets in a row opposite the Raiders.
Colgate's men are 0-5, 0-2 PL this year. The Raiders' last result was a 203-86 home loss to Canisius on Nov. 23.
Bucknell will be idle from intercollegiate competition for nearly a month following Saturday's meet. The Bison will next be in action Jan. 4 when they host Columbia (men) and Rutgers (women) at 1 p.m. in Kinney Natatorium.
