LEWISBURG, Pa. – With the 2013 Patriot League tournament just a day away, three Bison received accolades when the conference office released its academic awards for the 2013 season on Wednesday. Senior Rachel Misko (Morristown, N.J./Madison) was selected as the Patriot League Field Hockey Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and was joined by senior Erica Perrine (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) and sophomore Abby Watson (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) on the Academic All-Patriot League team.
Misko, who earned second team All-Patriot League honors earlier this week and becomes Bucknell's eighth Scholar-Athlete, is the second consecutive Bison to earn the league's top academic honor, as Taylor Siegrist received the award last year. Both she and Perrine are making their second appearance on the Academic All-Patriot League team.
Misko, who boasts a 3.73 cumulative GPA, has earned a spot on Bucknell's Dean's List in each of her first six semesters at the university. A management major, she is also a three-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member and a three-time NFHCA National Division I Academic Squad selection.
One of only 12 players in conference history to earn four selections to the All-Patriot League team, Misko garnered first-team honors in 2011 and second-team accolades in 2010, 2012 and 2013. A 2012 and 2013 All-Patriot League Preseason team selection and the 2010 Patriot League Rookie of the Year, she was also named to the Patriot League All-Tournament Team in 2011 and 2012.
This season she ranks first on the team in goals (9) and points (19), both of which are single-season career highs, and she is also one of the top offensive performers in the conference, ranking first in points (14), goals (7) and game-winning goals (2), as well as second in shots (23) in Patriot League play this season. Misko was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week and Bison Athlete of the Week on Sept. 30 after recording a hat trick in Bucknell's 6-2 win over Colgate, and then earned her second Offensive Player of the Week award and the third of her career on Oct. 7 after scoring the game-winning goal against Lafayette.
An accounting major with a 3.84 cumulative GPA, Perrine has earned six selections to Bucknell's Dean's List and is also the recipient of the Delta Mu Delta Board
Award and the Dean's Scholarship. The captain of this year's squad and a member of Bucknell's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, she is a three-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll selection, as well as a three-time NFHCA National Division I Academic Squad member.
Perrine, who took over the Bison goaltending duties during her sophomore year, is a two-time All-Patriot League honoree and a 2013 All-Patriot League Preseason team selection. She started all 17 games in goal this season, compiling an 8-9 record through the regular season. Her 1.27 GAA and .767 save percentage rank her third in Patriot League play this season, while her 23 saves rank her fourth. Perrine has become one of the strongest Bison goaltenders in program history during her time between the pipes, and she currently ranks fifth with 25 career wins and eighth with 284 career saves.
Watson, a civil engineering major with an impressive 4.0 GPA, is one of only two sophomores to earns a selection to the Academic All-Patriot League team. A Dean's Scholarship recipient and a two-time Dean's List honoree, she is also a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society. Last season she was selected to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and the NFHCA National Division I Academic squad, and was named an NFHCA Scholar of Distinction for her perfect GPA.
A dynamic forward, Watson ranks third on the team in goals (6) and points (15), as well as second in assists (3), all of which are career-highs. She was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 14 after scoring a hat trick in Bucknell's 7-0 win over Holy Cross. Her performances in conference action place her among the best in the league, as she ranks fifth with three goals and sixth with seven points.
Misko, Perrine, Watson and the rest of the Bucknell field hockey team begin their quest for the 2013 Patriot League Championship title on Friday at 2 p.m. when they take on the Boston University Terriers in a semifinal contest.
