LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell wrestling team's challenging early season schedule continues this Saturday, Nov. 9, when the Bison travel to Lehigh for a 7 p.m. EIWA dual match. The Mountain Hawks, who are ranked 22nd nationally, will be opening their 105th season of wrestling. The match will take place at Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall. Tickets range in price from $4 to $31.
Live video of the match will be available via the Patriot League Network free of charge, while there will also be a radio broadcast on ESPN Radio 1230 and 1320 in the Lehigh Valley.
Bucknell (1-1, 0-0 EIWA) opened its 64th season of varsity competition last Saturday and split duals against Shippensburg (W, 50-0) and host Lock Haven (L, 19-13). Senior Stephen McPeek and juniors Tyler Lyster and Joe Stolfi each picked up two victories for the Bison, who used 13 wrestlers in their lineups, including four freshmen and four sophomores.
Stolfi is ranked 10th nationally at 285 pounds by Amateur Wrestling News. He was a 2013 NCAA qualifier and came one win shy of becoming Bucknell's sixth different All-American. He is 21-5 in his last 26 bouts and 10 of his 30 career victories have come by fall.
Like Bucknell, Lehigh is a very young team and could have up to five freshman starters on Saturday. The Mountain Hawks have three ranked wrestlers in their projected lineup: No. 6 Mason Beckman (133 pounds), No. 19 Mitch Minotti (149) and No. 10 Joey Napoli (157). Twenty Lehigh wrestlers competed in the Clarion Knight Point Open last weekend.
This is the fourth consecutive year Bucknell and Lehigh have met in a dual. The Mountain Hawks hold a 9-0 advantage in the all-time series, including a 31-9 victory last February in Davis Gym on Senior Night for the Bison.
Bucknell will face two more nationally ranked teams next weekend when it makes a trip to Oklahoma. The Bison will faced both Oklahoma State and Oklahoma in road matches on Sunday, Nov. 17.
