LEWISBURG, Pa. – More honors came in on Wednesday for Bucknell women's soccer juniors Hannah Bonotto (Carmichael, Calif./St. Mary's) and Evelyn Nicinski (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown North), as both earned spots on the 11-person Patriot League All-Academic Team.
Bucknell and Army were the only programs to place multiple student-athletes on the All-Academic Team. The Black Knights had three representatives. Navy goalkeeper Elizabeth Hoerner was picked as the 2013 Patriot League Women's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Last week Bonotto was named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team, and she is now in the running for Academic All-America honors. Bonotto was a key member of the Bison defensive unit this fall. She appeared in all 18 games this season and led the team in minutes played with 1,647. She was part of a defense that has recorded six shutouts, including 110 minutes of scoreless action in Tuesday's Patriot League Tournament quarterfinal game at Colgate. Bonotto is one of the most improved players in the program. After not appearing in a match during her freshman season in 2011, she has played in every game, and started all but two, over the last two years.
Off the field, Bonotto carries a 3.75 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in civil engineering. Last summer she participated in the highly selective Institute for Leadership in Technology and Management (ILTM), an interdisciplinary program for engineers and management students. Bonotto was part of a six-person team that consulted for telecommunications company Oracle-Acme Packet. Bonotto serves as a teaching assistant and peer tutor in the Bucknell engineering department, and she is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. She is an executive member of the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, and she represents the women's soccer team on Bucknell's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Bonotto previously spent three summers as a volunteer counselor at Camp ReCreation, an overnight camp for adults and children with developmental disabilities, such as Autism, Down Syndrome, and Cerebral Palsy.
Earlier this week Nicinski made the All-Patriot League Team for the first time, earning Second Team honors as a midfielder. Nicinski was one of the league's top two-way central midfielders this season. She tied for the team lead with 10 points on four goals and two assists. Three of her four goals came in Patriot League competition. In a four-day span in October she tallied the second-half equalizer in a 1-1 draw with Colgate and then had the game-winner in a 1-0 road win over Lafayette. Nicinski also scored goals against Lehigh and Mount St. Mary's along with assists against Towson and Loyola, meaning the team went 5-0-1 when she registered a point.
Nicinski had an outstanding season despite traveling to Europe on three separate occasions with the Polish National Team.
Nicinski is a global management major with a 3.65 cumulative GPA, and she has been an annual member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
Bucknell finished the year 7-9-2. After playing Colgate to a scoreless draw on Tuesday night, the Raiders prevailed 5-4 in penalty kicks to advance to the Patriot League Tournament semifinals.
