LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell football RB CJ Williams (Cockeysville, Md./Calvert Hall/Navy Prep) was named to the Jerry Rice Award Watch List this week. The award, now in its third season, honors the top first-year player in FCS. The award's Watch List now features 22 players with Holy Cross QB Peter Pujals the only other Patriot League player cited.
A freshman who was named to the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) FCS National Freshman Performer of the Year Watch List earlier this fall, Williams has posted three 100-yard games this season and leads the Bison in rushing yards (582). He has more rushing yards than any other Bucknell freshman since Rich Lemon set the program standard (1,151) in 1993.
Named the Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday after rushing for a career-high 154 yards in a 48-10 victory over No. 15 Lehigh, Williams also posted 100-yard outings against Cornell (148) and Holy Cross (104). He is just the 22nd player in program history to post three 100-yard rushing performances in the same season.
Williams ranks third in the Patriot League, and 30th nationally, in rushing yards per game (97.0). The last Bison with more rushing yards in a season was Tyler Smith in 2011.
Williams and his Bison teammates will return to the field this Saturday, Nov. 2, when they open a two-game road trip at Colgate. Kickoff in Hamilton, N.Y., is 1 p.m.
