LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell's two-game Patriot League winning streak came to an end on Saturday as American scored once in the first half and twice more in the second to take a 3-0 decision at Reeves Field. The Bison fell to 5-7 overall and 2-2 in the Patriot League, while American stayed perfect in league play at 3-0 and improved to 5-7 on the year.
American's scoring leader Lindsay Muri netted her fifth goal of the year 18:52 into the contest to stake the Eagles to an early lead. They added insurance goals from Shaena Alfonsi and Ashley Bonner about 10 minutes apart in the second half. Sara Perlman assisted on all three goals.
The Bison finished with a 14-11 shot advantage, but Charlene Belanger made seven saves in goal for American to keep Bucknell off the scoreboard for only the fourth time this season. Jessie Ashworth made four saves for the Bison.
Alexis Gannon led Bucknell with five shot attempts, while Brigit Falcón and Sarah Bresette took three apiece.
“Credit to American, they played very well today and deserved the three points,” said coach Ben Landis afterward. “From our perspective, we just didn't execute well enough. Now we have to regroup for Navy next week.”
Bucknell will play its next two contests at home against Patriot League opposition. The Bison host Navy next Friday and Colgate on Oct. 19.
