LEWISBURG, Pa. – Junior Hannah Bonotto (Carmichael, Calif./St. Francis), a starting central defender for the Bucknell women's soccer team and a Dean's List student in civil engineering, was named to the 11-person Capital One Academic All-District 2 Team on Thursday. Bonotto earned all-district honors for the first time, and she now moves on to the national ballot where she will be in the running for Academic All-America honors.
Bonotto is a key member of the Bison defensive unit. She has appeared in all 16 games this season and leads the team in minutes played with 1,447. She is part of a defense that has recorded five shutouts, and with one game remaining in the regular season, Bucknell has already locked up a Patriot League Tournament berth.
Bonotto is one of the most improved players in the program. After not appearing in a match during her freshman season in 2011, she has played in every game, and started all but two, over the last two years.
Off the field, Bonotto carries a 3.75 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in civil engineering. Last summer she participated in the highly selective Institute for Leadership in Technology and Management (ILTM), an interdisciplinary program for engineers and management students. Bonotto was part of a six-person team that consulted for telecommunications company Oracle-Acme Packet.
Bonotto serves as a teaching assistant and peer tutor in the Bucknell engineering department, and she is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. She is an executive member of the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, and she represents the women's soccer team on Bucknell's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Bonotto previously spent three summers as a volunteer counselor at Camp ReCreation, an overnight camp for adults and children with developmental disabilities, such as Autism, Down Syndrome, and Cerebral Palsy.
In order to be eligible for Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must carry a minimum 3.30 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key reserve on his/her team.
Bucknell concludes its 2013 regular season on Saturday at Boston University. A victory would allow the Bison to host a Patriot League Tournament quarterfinal game on Nov. 5.
