LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell swimming and diving teams are two of a handful of Bison squads that will be in action at home on Saturday when they host Pittsburgh at 1 p.m. in Kinney Natatorium. It will be the first home scored meet of the season for Bucknell and it is taking place on Homecoming weekend.
The Bison men are 1-0 on the young season and are coming off a convincing 165-91 victory at George Washington last Saturday. Freshman Louis Behnen won three events and Mike Nicholson claimed two before swimming the 200 IM exhibition. Eight different Bucknell swimmers won events as the Bison had the first-place finisher in every race.
Bucknell is 6-7 all-time against Pittsburgh. This will mark the first meeting between the two teams since the 1978-79 campaign.
Pittsburgh is 1-0 this year and is coming off a 186-114 win at St. Bonaventure last Saturday.
Bucknell's women had a tighter victory at George Washington last Saturday as they outscored the Colonials by 18 points in the final two events to post a 140-122 victory. Kristen Purdy, Ashley Henderson and Amber McDonnell swept the top three spots in the 200 IM and then the 400 free relay squad of Emma Levendoski, Kaitlyn Utkewicz, Emily Wright and Rachel McGoff clinched the team victory with a win in its race.
This will be the second meeting between Bucknell and Pittsburgh on the women's side. The only previous time they squared off was in 1975-76 when the Panthers posted an 80-42 victory.
Like the men, the Pittsburgh women are 1-0 this year and are coming off a 225-75 victory at St. Bonaventure.
Bucknell will next be in action Nov. 9 when it hosts Patriot League foes American, Lafayette and Navy in a quad meet in Kinney Natatorium. Start time for that annual even is 12 p.m.
