Walt Disney once said, "The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing". At this point in the Bucknell swim team's season, it is important that these words ring true for the members of our team. December and January mark the final months of preparation before Patriots and ECACs, meaning they are filled with hard training. We spend these endless hours in the pool and weight room with one goal in mind: to better ourselves and make progress as a team.
This year, our team was fortunate enough to travel to Boca Raton, Florida, once again for a week of training at Boca Raton High School. With 10 practices and one meet over the course of six days, the experience was beyond exhausting. But the 85-degree warm weather and the company of our teammates kept spirits high. It is the memories that are created during these weeks with the team that get me through the pain and soreness of our sport. Whenever I was swimming a set in Florida (or anytime this year for that matter), I would look around me and know that I shared a bond with these women and men, that we were going through the same thing as we worked toward what we wanted to accomplish.
After our trip to Florida concluded, we were able to spend a brief time at home with our families. But shortly after, it was back to Bucknell for two more weeks of training and competition against some of our Patriot League rivals. Even with all the hard work, we've had some time for fun outside the pool too. We've had many team dinners and this week, some of the team will showcase their special talents in an always hilarious talent show.
When contemplating my last three years here, I always think about how proud I am to be a Bison, especially after seeing how hard each one of us works day in and day out. We all contribute something special to the team, whether it is a supportive shoulder to cry on or a motivation to make ourselves and others better. I know that the end of the season will bring greatness. What we do in this program is extraordinary and I am so happy to be a part of it. GO BISON!
