LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell head football coach Joe Susan on Tuesday announced the addition of Andy Aurich to the Bison coaching staff. Aurich, who coached alongside Susan for one year at Rutgers, spent the 2012 campaign as a defensive coaching assistant with the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Aurich, a 2006 graduate of Princeton University with a degree in politics, was a two-year starter on the Tigers' offensive line and handled long snapping duties for one season. He will coach the Bucknell offensive line, which will feature four returning starters in 2013.
"We feel very fortunate to welcome Andy to our program as the offensive line coach," commented Susan. "He is a man who will fit in well with our staff. Andy will serve as a role model and teacher for the young men on our team. He is intelligent and passionate about the game and his experience on both sides of the ball will serve him well in our offense. He is the son of a coach and that brings with it some unique intangibles related to work ethic and the ability to handle adversity. We are excited to have him on our staff."
Aurich moved to the NFL last year when former Bison player Greg Schiano '88 was hired as head coach of the Bucs. He primarily worked with the linebackers during practice and coordinated the offensive scout team for walk-through while also assisting with the defensive scout team.
A Roseville, Minn., native, Aurich got his start in the coaching profession at his high school alma mater, Concordia Academy, in 2006. His first college coaching position came the following spring when he became tight ends coach and assistant recruiting coordinator at Albright College. He helped the Lions improve from 2-8 in 2006 to MAC and ECAC Bowl champions in 2008.
After a two-year stint at Albright, Aurich moved on to Rutgers. There, he coached under Schiano and alongside Susan, who was then the tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator before becoming Bucknell head coach in January 2010. During his two years with the Scarlet Knights, Aurich served as an offensive quality control coach and defensive assistant. He primarily assisted the defensive line coach and coordinated the offensive, defensive and special teams scout teams.
Aurich spent the 2011 campaign at Princeton as the running backs coach, helping freshman Chuck Dibilio to First Team All-Ivy League honors and the Ivy League Rookie of the Year award after piling up the most rushing yards in conference history by a true freshman (1,068).
