LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior center Mike Muscala (Roseville, Minn./Roseville) earned his third Anaconda Patriot League Player of the Week and his third Bison Athlete of the Week award of the season on Monday, in recognition of his two stellar performances in road games against Cornell and No. 12 Missouri last week.
Muscala turned in one of the top outings of his career against the powerful Tigers on Saturday in Columbia, Mo. The Bison dropped a 66-64 heartbreaker, but Muscala finished with 25 points, 14 rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots. He made 10 of 17 shots from the floor, helped Bucknell earn a 39-38 rebounding edge against the top rebounding team in the country, and helped limit Missouri star center Alex Oriakhi to nine points.
Earlier in the week, Muscala recorded 13 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and four blocks in a 72-56 victory at Cornell. He was 4-for-5 from the field against the Big Red, making him 14-for-22 (.636) for the week.
Muscala now has 10 double-doubles on the season and 34 in his career. For the season he is averaging 19.2 points and 10.9 rebounds per game, and he is the only player in the nation ranked in the top 30 in scoring and top 15 in rebounding among the Division I leaders.
Muscala moved past Lorry Hathaway into fourth place on Bucknell's career rebounding chart, and he became the third Bison player and 10th in Patriot League history to surpass the 1,700-point plateau.
Bucknell finished the non-conference portion of the regular-season schedule with a 13-3 record, which is the second-best mark through 16 games in program history. The 1983-84 team started 14-2. The Bison are now prepping for Patriot League play, which begins Saturday with a 7 p.m. home game against Army.
