The end of the semester brings about a lot of emotions for members of the swim team here at Bucknell. The excitement for finals, the anxiety brought about by final projects and the desire for break to begin are among these emotions. This desire for break is heightened further by the prospect of taking our training trip. Once finals were over, we could feel this excitement reach its peak. It would be one more day until we hopped on a flight to sunny south Florida. This would start the first stage of our winter training.
In spite of a few hiccups at the beginning of the trip, we were all able to successfully make the journey and get ready for a week of intense training. As intense as it would be though, our motivation to get in the pool and put forth a full effort did not falter. The sun seemed to work its magic on our team, pulling us closer together and driving us towards our goal of maintaining a consistent, rigorous training regimen. This regimen consisted of a repeating pattern of two days of training followed by a team activity hosted by one of the families who lived in Florida. The first of these activities, hosted by the Norton family, was a wonderful evening spent with great homemade food and a team caroling competition. The second event was an afternoon spent on the beach with the Reitz family. The training trip ended on a high note with a relay meet against Northwestern and Ohio State.
After training trip and a short stint at home, we all returned to campus for training camp. Training camp presented a chance for us to step up the training and put our hard work to use against some great competition. Since training camp takes place prior to the start of second semester, we were able to focus on training, competition and the team talent show of course. With two hard weeks of practice and an early meet against Columbia in the books, we faced competitions against Colgate and Army. A lot of people stepped up and back-to-back great meets have left us ready for an incredible championship run.
Go Bison!!!
