LEWISBURG, Pa. – After nearly two full weeks, junior Vickie Resh is wrapping up her run in Guadalajara, Mexico playing with Team USA at the Junior Pan American Games. Resh has be checking in periodically throughout her international experience, which culminated this weekend by earning a berth in the 2013 Junior World Cup.
It's currently 1:00 a.m. here in Guadalajara and we leave for the airport in two hours. We just got back to the hotel about 30 minutes ago from a late dinner and it looks like we won't be getting any sleep tonight. By the time you all read this, I'll probably be halfway back to Bucknell but I thought I'd fill you in on my last day here. Today we played Chile for third place and for a spot at the Junior World Cup. We were looking for some sweet revenge from our 2-1 loss against them the other day.
When we woke up for breakfast, three of our girls were sick all night and still weren't feeling well. By midday… all but six of us were sick to some degree. Our trainer and manager spent the day running crackers and Pepto-Bismol to all of our rooms. By the time we left for the field, we were in better form but still not feeling 100 percent. We also knew that we couldn't let that affect us because we had a huge game to play. There wasn't quite as much dancing in the locker room as there normally is, but we still managed to get ourselves pumped up.
I think it's safe to say that due to the way we were feeling we didn't play our best, but it's also safe to say we wanted that win more than Chile and so we pulled out the 2-1 win. We placed third at the Junior Pan American Games and secured a spot in the Junior World Cup!
After our game we stayed and watched the final between Canada and Argentina. After Argentina won, the award ceremony began. At the award ceremony we were walked out onto the field and onto the third place podium where we received our medals. After the second and first place teams received their medals, Argentina's national anthem was played and then a ton of pictures were taken.
Being able to play on this team and represent the United States these past two weeks has been such an incredible experience. I feel so fortunate and so blessed to have had this opportunity. Thanks to everyone who's helped make it so great!
Now good luck to the junior men's team as they take on Chile tomorrow morning for third place!!!!
And……… good luck to my Bucknell team as they take on Temple!!!! See you all soon!
