LEWISBURG, Pa. - With Bucknell field hockey in the middle of its longest homestand of the season, junior Vickie Resh is still in Guadalajara, Mexico playing with Team USA at the Junior Pan American Games. Resh will be checking in periodically throughout her international experience. Below is the midfielder's next blog entry on preparing for a Junior World Cup berth.
Only 2 more nights left here in Guadalajara and I actually think I might miss parts of it. Not the bed or pillows of course... I can't wait to return to my dorm bed if that's even believable. For the past two weeks it's felt like I'm sleeping on a sheet of wood with rocks for pillows. But I have been able to sleep, which is more than what some of the girls on my team can say so I suppose I can't complain.
Other than the beds, things here have been going pretty well. We lost a really heartbreaking loss to Argentina two days ago. We all agreed after the game that is was the fastest game we've all ever played in and that they were simply better than us. I say they were better than us, but that doesn't mean I don't believe we can't beat them, because we can. Maybe we wouldn't win the second or the third time we played them, but the games would be closer and by the fourth match I'm pretty confident we'd come out with a win. I say this because we learned more from that one game against Argentina than we probably did from the rest of the tournament, and we all would love to have another go at them.
Losing to Argentina leaves us to play Chile again in the third medal match tomorrow evening. In order to qualify for the Junior World Cup, we have to win tomorrow, and I have no doubt we can achieve our goal!
Yesterday was another day off, but we went and supported our men's team as they played Argentina. We dressed up, painted up, and brought our best cheers for the occasion. Unfortunately, they too suffered a heartbreaking loss but will play for third against Chile as well on Sunday.
As for today... we have a meeting and training tonight but nothing until then so my entire day will be spent doing homework and studying. Exciting... I know!
Good luck to my Bucknell team as they take on Michigan and Temple this weekend!!!!
Go USA!
