LEWISBURG, Pa. - With a team-leading five points in the last three games, Bucknell field hockey's Rachel Misko (Morristown, N.J./Madison) was named the Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday. Misko picked the biggest moments of the week to make her presence felt as she scored the game-winning goal against Cornell and assisted on the overtime game winner a few days later opposite Saint Francis (Pa.). The late-game heroics have helped Bucknell to a 4-2 overall record this fall.
Misko opened her week by scoring the game-winning goal against the Big Red. The goal came with less than four minutes to play, and pushed the Bison to a 2-1 comeback victory. The junior then put together one of the most impressive offensive performances of her career to give Bucknell a win against Saint Francis. Misko scored with 51 seconds left in regulation and forced the bout with the Red Flash into overtime. Just a few minutes into the extra period, Misko dished an assist for Maggie Murphy's (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) game-winning score.
With that final game-winning combo against Saint Francis, Bucknell is now undefeated in its last seven overtime games. It is the longest such winning streak in program history. The last time the Bison lost in overtime was Sept. 26, 2010 when they fell to Indiana in a strokeoff.
Misko was the only Bison to score more than once in the three-game week that also included a 2-0 loss at Columbia last Saturday. Her five points led the team, while Murphy was second with three points. Through all six games this fall, Misko has eight points (3G, 2A), which also leads the team.
The Bison Athlete of the Week honor is the first of Misko's career. She is the first field hockey athlete to claim the award since Tayler Siegrist (Madison, N.J./Madison) on Nov. 6, 2011.
Bucknell returns to the field this weekend when it hosts both Towson and Ohio State. The Saturday meeting against Towson is set for 12 p.m., while the Bison and the nationally ranked Buckeyes will square off at 10 a.m. on Sunday. That game will be broadcast live on Bison Vision at BucknellBison.com. Live stats for both games will also be available on GameTracker.
