LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell field hockey picked up a pair of Patriot League honors on Monday as Erica Perrine (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) was recognized as the league's Goalkeeper of the Week and Kiersten Sydnor (Shippensburg, Pa./Mercersburg Academy) was named the Rookie of the Week. Perrine made 15 saves, 10 of which came against No. 6 Connecticut, and Sydnor tallied the game-winning goal in an overtime victory at Fairfield last weekend.
Perrine has now been named the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week three times in her career. The junior opened the season with 10 saves and three goals allowed against UConn, a team that pushed North Carolina to double overtime in the national semifinal game a year ago. It was the fourth time in her career, and the third time against a team ranked nationally in the top 10, that Perrine recorded double-digit saves.
Through the first two games of the season, which included a 2-1 overtime victory at Fairfield, Perrine has a 1.99 goals against average and a .789 save percentage having played 141:02.
Sydnor helped capture that overtime win for the Bison by netting her first career goal just over a minute into the extra period with the Stags. Sydnor received a pass from Rachel Misko (Morristown, Pa./Madison) in front of the cage and got it past the Fairfield keeper. The score kept Bucknell undefeated in its last five overtime games going back to the end of the 2010 season.
The Rookie of the Week award is the first of Sydnor's career.
Bucknell will take on its first opponent at Graham Field this season when it hosts Lock Haven at 12 p.m. on Sunday. The Bison will enjoy a long stretch on their home turf, playing eight of their next nine games in Lewisburg.
