LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's and women's tennis teams each placed one member on the Academic All-Patriot League Team as Evan Zimmer (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) and Daria Tuzhikova (Minsk, Belarus/Gymnasium No. 7) were honored for their work on and off the court. With his second award of the spring, Zimmer is the only player on the men's side to be named to both the Patriot League's all-academic and all-league teams. This is the second year in a row the junior Zimmer has earned both all-academic and all-league selections.
This is the second straight year he has earned a nomination to the second team. Zimmer broke the single-season wins mark in doubles with a record of 31-6 and went 19-13 in singles. He spent most of his season playing at No. 1 doubles with partner Gregg Cohenca (Purchase, N.Y./Rye Country Day School), where the partners ranked in the top 60 nationally and will be the first Bison duo ever to compete in the NCAA Championships on May 23-28 in Athens, Ga. A
way from the court, Zimmer has sustained a 3.45 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in accounting. He is a multi-term member of the Bucknell Dean's List and Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, and has served as the secretary to the treasurer for Sigma Alpha Epsilon.
On the women's side, Tuzhikova has earned her first award as a Bucknell student-athlete with her nomination to the all-academic team. Tuzhikova is the first women's selection for the Bison since the installment of the award. The junior spent most of her season at No. 4 singles and was exclusively a No. 1 doubles player for the Bison. She earned a 5-8 singles and 7-14 doubles record during the spring campaign.
Outside of tennis, Tuzhikova has maintained a 3.48 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in international relations. She is a multi-term member of the Bucknell Dean's List and Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. Tuzhikova missed playing in the fall of the 2011-12 season to study abroad in France.
The Academic All-Patriot League Team is for honoring additional student-athletes who excel both on and off the field. Student-athletes must have at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA and be a starter or a key reserve. Award winners are determined by a vote of the league's sports information directors who cannot vote for their own athletes.
