Cohenca and Zimmer made history earlier this month when they received the first-ever individual bid to the NCAA Championships in Bucknell and Patriot League history. The duo has posted a 20-5 record together this year, including 10-2 at No. 1 doubles during the spring duals campaign.
WITH A VICTORY OVER KENTUCKY, BUCKNELL WOULD...
• Win its first ever NCAA tournament match.
• Be the first Patriot League representative in men's or women's tennis in the team or individual tournament to advance beyond the first round.
• Face the winner of Jonas Lutjen/Nik Scholtz of Mississippi and Andre Dome/Matt Fawcett of Cal Poly.
QUICK FACTS
• This will be Bucknell's first-ever appearance at the individual tournament.
• The only team in the tournament that the Bison duo has faced is the partnership of Russell Bader and Jason Lee from Penn State, now ranked No. 27. The Bison partners won the Feb. 11 match at University Park, Pa., 9-8 (7). They are also the only ITA ranked team the Bison have faced this year.
• The Bucknell doubles tandem earned the Patriot League's first-ever doubles automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Tennis Championships.
ABOUT THE WILDCATS
Kentucky, which was ranked sixth in the country, was also entered in the team championships last week. The Wildcats fell to No. 11 Stanford in the Sweet 16 by a score of 4-1. Their lone point came in doubles with help from seventh-ranked Jha and Quigley at the first position. It was the first time this season that Kentucky had won the doubles point but lost the match. Entering the meeting with Stanford, the Wildcats were 21-0 this year after winning the doubles point.
Jha and Quigley are 19-12 on the year and in their careers playing together, including 14-10 in duals and 5-3 in the SEC. In singles, Quigley is the third-ranked player in the country with a 49-6 record this season.
