PRINCETON, N.J. - Jordan Donaldson (Saxton, Pa./Tussey Mountain) and the men's 4x800 relay became the latest Bison to earn All-East honors as Bucknell track and field closed competition at the IC4A/ECAC Championships at Weaver Stadium on Sunday. Donaldson finished third in the 800 meters, while the relay put up a surprise eighth-place performance on the final day of the meet.
Donaldson entered Sunday's 800-meter final seeded seventh after the prelims, but the senior improved his positioning up to third place. His time of 1 minute, 51.50 second gave him his first career All-East citation.
"Jordan ran a super race. It was a very tactical race that went out slow," said head coach Kevin Donner. "We are very happy with the place, but unfortunately we now have to wait to see if his fastest time will get him to the NCAA preliminary round."
Donaldson's top time of the season stands at 1:50.52. Entering the weekend, that ranked him 60th in the East Region. The top 48 declared athletes will advance to the NCAA East Preliminaries in Jacksonville, Fla., late this month.
The middle distances continued to be a boon for the Bison on Sunday as the men's 4x800 relay took eighth place for honors. Dustin Horning (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown Area), Chris Oesterlin (Nahant, Mass./St. John's Prep), Dennis Logan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) and Tyler Erhard (Millerstown, Pa./East Juniata) combined for a time of 7:38.32.
"Our 4x800 was a surprise finalist and to finish eighth and earn All-East is a tribute to the relay team," said Donner after the meet.
Also on the track was Emily Liggett (Grosse Point, Mich./Lawrenceville School (N.J.)), who placed 12th in the 3,000 meters. The lone female competitor of the Bison on Sunday finished in 10:12.86
The remainder of Bucknell's competitors on the final day were all in the field events. Tom Barr (Ambler, Pa./La Salle College HS) finished 12th in the shot put with a throw of 53 feet, 7 ¾ inches. Stephen Koullias (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing) was 17th (51-7 ¾), while Quinten Marcott (Wayland, Mich./Wayland) placed 19th (51-3) in the shot as well.
Jason Brown (Plainville, Mass./Bishop Feehan) tied for 10th in the high jump after clearing 6-8. Ray Holmes (Campbell, N.Y./Campbell-Savona Central) finished 16th in the triple jump with a mark of 47-4 ¼.
Bucknell will now look forward to the NCAA East Preliminaries May 24-26. The Bison are no longer scheduled to attend Monday's Swarthmore Last Chance meet.
