CHERRY HILL, N.J. (Cooper River) –The Bucknell women's rowing team wrapped up a busy weekend Sunday at the Eastern Sprints. One day after winning the team points trophy at the Dad Vail Regatta, the Bison advanced four boats to the grand finals of their events at the Eastern Sprints. The lightweight eight and freshman eight both placed second in their finals, marking the best finishes on the day for Bucknell.
The varsity eight placed fourth in its final, which was won by No. 1-ranked Virginia.
The lightweight eight's silver medal was its first-ever medal at the Eastern Sprints as it crossed the line just over four seconds behind Wisconsin.
The only team the freshman eight finished behind was Virginia, and it was more than 10 seconds ahead of third-place Buffalo.
The third varsity eight was the fourth Bison boat to earn a berth in its grand final and crossed the line fourth. The Bison were just over one-half second behind third-place Northeastern and just over four seconds behind runner-up Boston U.
The second varsity eight and freshman four were also in action Sunday. The second varsity eight placed second in the petite final, while the freshman four was fifth in its petite final, finishing 11th overall as it raced in the varsity four event.
Bucknell's lightweights will next be in action the first weekend of June at the IRA National Championship Regatta.
