LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior Christine Holodnik (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic), a member of the Bison women's rowing team, received a special award at the University's annual Senior Athletic Awards Banquet, sponsored by the Bison Club and held at the Elaine Langone Center on Tuesday, May 1.
Holodnik won the Robert A. Latour Service Award, presented to senior athletes "for extraordinary service to Bucknell and local communities." Holodnik shared the award with Matthew Segar of the men's swimming and diving team, who was the male selection.
In addition to Holodnik, several other student-athletes were honored at the banquet, including the winners of the Christy Mathewson Award, given to the most outstanding athletes in the senior class.
Part of four Patriot League Championship teams, Holodnik has been a key contributor for the Bison over the years. She was part of the winning varsity four at the Patriot League Championship as a freshman and has rowed with the second varsity eight each of the last three years, experiencing two more first-place finishes and a runner-up showing.
Very active in both the local Bucknell community as well as in her home city of Pittsburgh, Holdnik started a Lewisburg chapter of WhosYourBrother.com and now runs and operates the website on her own. The site allows users to post things they need help with, and someone can respond to help them through a pay-it-forward mentality where no money exchanges hands.
Holodnik is the Bucknell women's rowing team's service organizer and coordinates team trips to volunteer at the local food bank. She is a sociology major who spent a semester studying abroad in Samoa, Hawaii, Fiji and American Samoa.
Bucknell is a highly selective, privately endowed liberal arts institution with an enrollment of approximately 3,500 undergraduate students. Bucknell competes in NCAA Division I as a member of the Patriot League and has full membership along with American, Army, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh and Navy. Bucknell has won the Presidents' Cup, signifying the Patriot League's all-sports champion, in 17 of 21 years, including 13 of the last 14.
