Mallory Smith Receives Senior Athletic Award at Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior Mallory Smith (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland), a captain on the field hockey team, received a special award at the University's annual Senior Athletic Awards Banquet, sponsored by the Bison Club and held in Terrace Room on Tuesday, May 1.
Smith won the Lee S. "Bud" Ranck Memorial Award, presented to senior athletes "for outstanding spirit and contributions to the Bucknell athletic program." Smith shared the award with Eric Sokolosky of the men's swimming and diving team, who was the male selection.
Smith capped off her field hockey career with the best season of her career. After leading Bucknell in goals and assists, and more than doubling her career totals in both categories, she was named to the All-Patriot League First Team. Smith also led Bucknell to its fourth consecutive Patriot League Tournament, making the Bison Class of 2012 the first in program history to qualify for the postseason in all four seasons.
Smith finished her career with 33 points on 11 goals and 11 assists. Seven of those goals and eight of her assists came during her senior campaign.
A biology major and linguistics minor, Smith was named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team last fall with a 3.84 grade-point average. Her off-the-field accomplishments have been many and include serving as a research assistant in the University's Classics Department where she assisted with sketching ancient glass shards excavated in Jordan. She has also completed a dentistry externship, written regular articles for the campus fashion magazine, worked as a marketing representative with a local designer apparel boutique and volunteered at a local no-kill dog shelter, among other activities.
Bucknell is a highly-selective, privately endowed liberal arts institution with an enrollment of 3,583 undergraduate students. Bucknell competes in NCAA Division I as a member of the Patriot League and has full membership along with American, Army, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh and Navy. Bucknell has won the Presidents' Cup, signifying the Patriot League's all-sports champion, in 17 of 21 years, including 13 of the last 14.
Bucknell annually ranks among the national leaders in graduation rate and is fifth in Division I in the total number of CoSIDA Academic All-America selections, with 121 national Academic All-Americans since 1970.
