LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior Eric Sokolosky (Branford, Conn./Branford), a member of the Bison men's swimming and diving team, received a special award at the University's annual Senior Athletic Awards Banquet, sponsored by the Bison Club and held at the Elaine Langone Center on Tuesday, May 1.
Sokolosky won the Lee S. "Bud" Ranck Memorial Award, presented to senior athletes "for outstanding spirit and contributions to the Bucknell athletic program." Sokolosky shared the award with Mallory Smith of the field hockey team, who was the female selection.
In addition to Sokolosky, several other student-athletes were honored at the banquet, including the winners of the Christy Mathewson Award, given to the most outstanding athletes in the senior class.
The four-time letterwinner at Bucknell, Sokolosky has earned several impressive accolades during his time on the Bison swimming and diving team. He is a four-time All-Patriot League selection (second team in 2009, 2012; first team in 2010, 2011) and was the Patriot League champion in the 50 free in 2010.
Sokolosky is also a two-time ECAC champion in the 100 free (2010, 2012) and is one of six Bison all-time to win at least two career Eastern titles. He is also just the third Bison to win two ECAC titles in the same event, the other two being classmate Matthew Segar and Jay Gross.
Sokolosky will graduate ranking in the top 10 in program history in four individual events: 100-yard freestyle (3rd, 45.02), 200 free (4th, 1:39.72), 50 free (5th, 20.49) and 100 butterfly (9th, 50.28). He is also part of 24 relays that show up in the top-10 lists and he helped the Bison to a 24-14 dual record over four years.
Sokolosky finished his career with 10 top-eight finishes at the Patriot League Championships. Overall, he was a 12-time scorer at the league meet.
