Taylor Harris Receives Senior Athletic Award at Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior Taylor Harris (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central), a member of the Bison men's swimming and diving team, received a special award at the University's annual Senior Athletic Awards Banquet, sponsored by the Bison Club and held at the Elaine Langone Center on Tuesday, May 1.
Harris won the 'Ray Bucknell Diversity Award, presented to senior athletes "who through his/her actions has worked to eliminate attitudes and actions that have separated, excluded or marginalized people in the past and has facilitated true understanding and recognition among multiple campus and Lewisburg constituencies."
In addition to Harris, several other student-athletes were honored at the banquet, including the winners of the Christy Mathewson Award, given to the most outstanding athletes in the senior class.
The three-time letterwinner was a 2012 Second Team All-Patriot League selection. Harris earned the accolade in his final chance as a Bucknell student-athlete. In 2012, Harris was voted to the 10-person Academic All-Patriot League Team and is also a two-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member.
He set several personal bests during his senior season, jumping into the top 10 in four individual events in program history during the Patriot League and ECAC postseason meets. Harris earned three top-10 finishes at the 2012 ECAC Championships and was an eight-time scorer in individual events at the Patriot League Championship throughout his career.
During his four years spent as a Bison he helped them to a 24-14 dual record and to three second-place finishes and one third-place showing at the Patriot League Championships.
Outside of the pool, Harris was actively involved the University's Dance Department, LGBT and took part in the University's fall break diversity retreat. During the spring of his junior year he studied abroad in Granada, Spain, and during the fall semester of his senior year he recorded a 4.0 GPA.
The Michigan native will graduate in the top 10 in four of the Bison's all-time individual swimming records: 50-yard freestyle (10th, 20.91), 100 backstroke (4th, 50.39), 100 breaststroke (9th, 57.27) and, most impressively, his second-place time in the 100 butterfly at 49.37 seconds. Harris also finishes as part of eight different relays that rank on the program's top-10 lists.
Bucknell is a highly selective, privately endowed liberal arts institution with an enrollment of approximately 3,500 undergraduate students. Bucknell competes in NCAA Division I as a member of the Patriot League and has full membership along with American, Army, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh and Navy. Bucknell has won the Presidents' Cup, signifying the Patriot League's all-sports champion, in 17 of 21 years, including 13 of the last 14.
