LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell freshman women's water polo player Taylor Barnett (Houston, Texas/Clear Lake) was named the Susquehanna Valley Limousine Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday following a record-tying seven-goal performance over the weekend in a win over George Washington. The team's leading goal scorer, Barnett finished the weekend with nine goals, nine ejections drawn and one steal in two games.
Barnett's seven goals against the Colonials helped the Bison to a 14-12 victory over their conference foe. The seven goals equaled the program record, which was established by Meg Blitzer in a 2004 game against Villanova and equaled by Valentina Rozas in a 2009 contest opposite Occidental.
A starter in 30 of Bucknell's 32 games this year, Barnett also posted a career-high seven ejections drawn against George Washington. That figure marked the most ejections drawn by a Bison since Aubrey Rowe had eight in a Southern Championships matchup with Maryland in April of 2009.
Barnett is quickly entering the Bison record books despite being a freshman. She already ranks fifth on the program's single-season ejections drawn list with a team-high 70. Additionally, her 56 goals this season place her four shy of joining the top-10 list in that category.
The third-leading scorer on the team (63 points), Barnett also has 20 steals and a pair of field blocks this season. She has posted six consecutive multi-goal games and has netted at least one goal in 23 of 32 contests this spring.
Bucknell registered a 1-1 record over the weekend. In addition to the win against George Washington, the Bison lost to No. 13 Michigan, 12-7. The Wolverines were the 11th ranked foe Bucknell has faced this year.
The Bison, who are 13-19 this season, will return to action this weekend when they host the Southern Championships inside Kinney Natatorium. Fans will have the opportunity to watch live video of the Southern Championships.
