TOWSON, Md. – The Bucknell women's tennis team (2-13) fell to the hands of Towson (9-6) Thursday afternoon. The Tigers beat the Bison by the score of 5-2. This was the first match of three for Bucknell heading into the weekend.
Daria Tuzhikova and Elena Vidrascu managed to win a tough battle against Ayana Dow and Ariel Burke at the No. 1 doubles position. The two Bison women defeated their opponents, 8-5.
That was the one bright spot for Bucknell heading into the singles matches as the team doubles point ultimately went in favor of the Tigers.
Dumitrita Iepuras earned a victory at the No. 1 singles bout after she beat Aandria Carr 6-2, 6-1. Iepuras is now 2-0 versus Towson tennis players as she won her match the last time the teams met back in the spring of 2009.
Lydia Colvin managed a quick turnaround from her doubles loss as she fought to win her No. 2 singles match over Nani Lizana by the score of 6-3, 6-1. Colvin is now 1-1 at the No. 2 singles slot on the year.
The Bison's next match will be against Patriot League opponent Colgate. The Raiders are 1-2 in the Patriot League so far this season with the sole victory coming over Lafayette, 7-0. Colgate had lost both of its matches 7-0 to Navy and Army. Bucknell's one Patriot League match was a 5-2 defeat to Navy.
Bucknell will face Colgate at home Friday at 1 p.m.
