LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell softball's season came to an end last weekend, but the Bison brought in another award on Monday as Erin Cox (La Quinta, Calif./La Quinta) was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week. The freshman hit .667 and recorded her first career multi-hit game on the final day of the series at Lafayette.
In two games on Sunday, Cox was 4-for-6 at the plate with three doubles, a run scored and an impressive 1.167 slugging percentage. In the final contest alone, she was 3-for-3 with two doubles. Cox also scored the game-winning run to give the Bison a 1-0 victory and split the overall series with the Leopards.
At the season's end, Cox had five doubles with three of them coming last weekend. She also closed out her rookie campaign hitting .233 as a first baseman and designated player.
The honor is the first of Cox's career. It is also the first Rookie of the Week citation for the Bison this season and the first since Bridget Gates on April 19, 2010.
Bucknell finished the 2012 season at 11-34 overall and 5-15 in the Patriot League.
