Bucknell Women's Tennis Cruises Past Robert Morris in 6-1 Victory

LEWISBURG, Pa. - With the Patriot League Tournament just around the corner, Bucknell women's tennis built up some momentum with a 6-1 win over Robert Morris at the Varsity Tennis Courts on Wednesday afternoon. After being recognized as part of Senior Day, Dumitrita Iepuras and Courtney Casey combined for four wins in their final match on their home court.
Casey began her day by partnering with Lydia Colvin and cruising to an 8-2 victory over Clarissa Chen and Samantha Alves at No. 2 doubles. Iepuras and Elizabeth Morgan then teamed up for an equally quick 8-3 win over Isabella Novella and Kourtney Passero at No. 3.
With the pair of doubles wins, Bucknell (5-16) took the early lead in the team score. That advantage continued to grow as the Bison took five of six singles bouts. Casey and Daria Tuzhikova allowed just two games each to their opponents from Robert Morris. Casey won 6-2, 6-0 over Alves at second singles, while Tuzhikova finished 6-0, 6-2 over Chen at No. 2.
While Morgan was also a straight-sets winner at sixth singles - 6-1, 6-4 over Ekaterina Rudneva - Iepuras and Lauren Boone had a tougher time in their matches. Both won the first set in their respective contests, but both also had to come back after dropping the second set. Iepuras eventually came out on top 6-2, 3-6, 10-6 against Carolina Mourao Texeira at the No. 1 slot. Boone won 7-6, 6-1, 10-4 at No. 5.
With their wins, both Iepuras and Boone reached some key milestones for the season. Iepuras is now tied with Elena Vidrascu for the team lead in singles victories with 11. Boone's win was the first of her career at singles.
When the Bison return to the courts it will be for the Patriot League Tournament. Fifth-seeded Bucknell will take on fourth-seeded Lehigh at 10 a.m. on Friday in Bethlehem, Pa. The winner of that match will face No. 1 Navy, which receives a first-round bye, at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The championship match is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday.
